Resins for the natural stone industry

At RV NEORESINS we develop resins, adhesives and treatments for reinforcing, consolidating, finishing and protecting natural stone.

We work with manufacturers processing marble, granite, quartzite, travertine, onyx and other ornamental stones, adapting each formulation to the material, the application process and the actual conditions of the production line.

Solutions for every stage of stone processing

The natural variability of stone means that the same resin does not deliver the same result on every material or in every production facility.

We therefore develop specific systems for the different stages of the process, from reinforcing the block before sawing to the final treatment of the polished surface.

Block reinforcement before sawing

Fragile or fractured blocks, or blocks with poorly compacted areas, may break during sawing, reducing yield and the value of the material obtained.

STRONGBLOCK is our range of solutions designed to create a protective and reinforcing layer on the faces of the block:

  • Cementitious adhesive: for block reinforcement.
  • Structural epoxy adhesive: a two-component system supplied as a thixotropic putty for particularly fragile or fractured materials.

The systems can be applied manually or with automatic equipment. Fibreglass mesh can be incorporated into severely damaged blocks to increase mechanical reinforcement.

The product and application procedure must be selected after assessing the type and condition of the stone, the cutting system and the working conditions.

Slab reinforcement and mesh backing

After sawing, slabs may contain cracks, pores, weak areas or fractures that make handling and the subsequent calibration and polishing stages more difficult.

We provide two-component adhesives formulated to reinforce slabs by penetrating discontinuities in the stone and bonding to both the material and the fibreglass.

  • Epoxy structural systems.
  • Unsaturated polyester systems.

RV NEORESINS can adjust the formulation according to cycle time, drying and curing temperature, hardener ratio, type of stone and the available application system.

Resins for surface finishing

Resin treatment of the visible face fills pores, cracks and small discontinuities before polishing, improving the uniformity and final finish of the piece.

We offer different surface-finishing systems depending on the material and the required result:

  • Low-viscosity, fast-curing epoxy resins for high-output automatic lines.
  • Transparent systems with an extended working time and formulations designed to reduce bubble formation.
  • Resins for light-coloured granites and quartzites, formulated to minimise changes to their original colour.
  • Low-viscosity coloured systems to enhance dark granites and marbles.
  • Transparent polyester resins for applications where a filling effect with minimal yellowing is required.

Transparency, viscosity, curing speed and colour can be adapted to the needs of each application.

Consolidating and upgrading problematic stone

Some stones contain soft areas, high porosity, microcracks or differences in compaction that make it difficult to achieve a uniform finish.

RV NEORESINS develops specific treatments to consolidate these areas and improve the industrial yield of materials such as Dark Emperador marble, certain travertines, cracked granites and other stones with heterogeneous structures.

The aim is to improve the cohesion of weak areas and facilitate more uniform polishing. The product and process must first be validated on representative samples of the material.

Surface protection and treatment

In addition to reinforcement and finishing systems, we offer products that protect and improve the appearance of finished stone:

  • Transparent and coloured waxes to improve gloss and visual uniformity.
  • Water- and oil-repellent treatments to reduce the absorption of water, oils and other substances that may cause staining.
  • Water-based water repellents.
  • Colour enhancers to intensify colour and create a wet-look effect.
  • Products for repairing small imperfections on edges and finished surfaces.

The suitability of a treatment depends on the nature and porosity of the stone, the surface finish, substrate moisture and the intended conditions of use.

For critical applications, a preliminary test on a representative sample is recommended.

Formulations adapted to each production line

We do more than supply a standard product. Our technical team studies the actual working conditions and adjusts the formulation whenever necessary.

Among other factors, we analyse:

  • Stone type, colour and porosity.
  • Size and condition of blocks or slabs.
  • Manual or automatic application.
  • Working temperature.
  • Available application time.
  • Curing speed and temperature.
  • Required penetration.
  • Transparency and final finish.
  • Compatibility with fibreglass.
  • Handling and polishing conditions.

This approach allows us to develop a suitable solution for each material and reduce the problems caused by using the same formulation in very different processes.

Materials we work with

We develop solutions for the industrial treatment of:

  • Marble.
  • Granite.
  • Quartzite.
  • Travertine.
  • Onyx.
  • Limestone and other ornamental stones.
  • Engineered stone and related materials, when required by the application.

Technical advice and application testing

If you need to reinforce a block, improve the strength of a slab, correct surface defects or adapt a resin to your production line, we can assess the case and prepare a technical proposal.

To recommend the right system, we will need to understand the material, the observed problem, the current process and the application conditions.
