Resins and adhesives for the ceramics industry

RV NEORESINS develops resins for ceramics and structural adhesives for reinforcing, bonding, repairing and finishing ceramic and porcelain pieces.

Our formulations are adapted both to industrial production lines and to subsequent fabrication operations. The aim is to adjust adhesion, penetration, viscosity and curing time to the material, the application equipment and the actual pace of the process.

Reinforcement of large-format ceramic pieces

Large-format panels and slabs may require reinforcement to reduce the risk of breakage during handling, machining, transport or installation. For these applications we develop adhesive systems that consolidate the back of the piece and work in combination with reinforcing meshes or fabrics.

The formulation must be selected according to substrate porosity, the finish on the back of the piece, the type of mesh, the process temperature and the time available before the next operations.

Our adhesives for ceramic reinforcement can be adapted to manual or automatic application and to different production speeds.

Characteristics to be controlled

  • Adhesion to porcelain stoneware, technical ceramics and low-absorption materials.
  • Compatibility with fibreglass and other reinforcing materials.
  • Suitable viscosity to cover the surface without running or making application difficult.
  • A working time compatible with line speed.
  • Curing adapted to ambient temperature or to the available thermal cycle.

Adhesives for bonding, assembly and fabrication

The fabrication of worktops, steps, cladding and decorative porcelain elements requires adhesives that maintain a stable bond and a carefully finished appearance. We offer acrylic, epoxy and polyester technologies that can be adapted to the type of piece and fabrication method.

For visible joints, colour, transparency and polishability are particularly important. Structural assemblies also require assessment of joint geometry, applied thickness, effective contact area and service conditions.

Typical applications

  • Bonding pieces for worktops and steps.
  • Assembly of aprons, mitres and decorative elements.
  • Bonding reinforcements and auxiliary components.
  • Filling joints, cavities and small discontinuities.
  • Repairing edges damaged during cutting or handling.

Repairing cracks, pores and small defects

Low-viscosity resins can penetrate fine cracks and help consolidate weakened areas. Open defects or vertical applications require higher-consistency formulations that remain in the repair area.

Systems can be supplied in transparent, translucent or coloured versions. Visual integration depends on shade, thickness, texture and surface finish, so the product should first be validated on a representative sample.

When the process requires greater mechanical strength or reduced shrinkage, epoxy resins formulated specifically for the application can be used.

Surface finishing, protection and maintenance

In addition to adhesives, RV NEORESINS offers products for surface protection and finishing. Treatments must be selected according to material absorption, the type of finish and the expected exposure to water, oils, cleaning products or other substances.

We also offer coloured solid waxes for correcting small scratches and imperfections on ceramic edges and finishes. Before applying any surface treatment, its effect on gloss, colour and ease of cleaning should be checked.

Cleaning and preparation before bonding

The low porosity of many porcelain materials makes surface preparation especially important. The bonding area must be clean, dry and free from dust, grease, wax, moisture and cutting or polishing residues.

Inadequate cleaning can reduce adhesion even when the adhesive is technically compatible. The cleaning product must be selected with the substrate and the subsequent adhesive system in mind, and must not leave residues on the surface.

Formulations adapted to industrial processes

The same solution does not perform equally on every line. We can therefore adjust:

  • Viscosity and penetration capacity.
  • Working time and curing speed.
  • Mixing ratio and dispensing method.
  • Colour, transparency and behaviour during polishing.
  • Curing at ambient temperature or through a thermal cycle.
  • Manual application or application with automatic equipment.

To define the appropriate system, we analyse the material, surface preparation, equipment, production rate and subsequent conditions of use.

Materials and applications

We work with manufacturers and fabricators of porcelain stoneware, large-format panels, technical ceramics and sintered materials. Solutions can be used for worktops, façades, cladding, flooring, furniture, steps and other fabricated components.

Each material must be assessed individually. Its composition, back texture, surface treatment and absorption can significantly affect adhesive performance.

Technical development and application testing

RV NEORESINS develops custom formulations and supports customers during application trials. For new projects, we recommend working with real samples and reproducing industrial line conditions as closely as possible.
